INTRODUCTION
This project was driven by the need for robust, re-configurable tooling to flatten large wooden slabs intended for tables or desks. The slab flattener is composed of standard aluminum extrusions, bolt-on attachments from 80/20, and 3/4 inch medium-density fiberboard.
PROJECT SCOPE
This project required conceptual design, solid modeling, top-level assembly drawing, and fabrication drawing detailing. Bedrock Design and Craft, LLC negotiated procurement, assembly, and delivery of the parts with multiple suppliers.

MAKITA ROUTER BASEPLATE
DESIGN FEATURES
The key features of the design is that it is a re-configurable platform:
- Platform rails are adjustable to suit any slab thickness
- Use of standard extrusions enables future bolt-on functionality and automation
- 1/4 inch thick baseplate mounts both 80/20 frame attachment and Makita router
- Slabs up to 8 feet long and 4 ft wide can be flattened
